Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC) Introduction

What is Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC)?
hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC) CAS no. : 9004-65-3,is white to slightly off-white fibrous or granular powder,it is a synthetic modified natural polymer, and a nonionic cellulose ether with odorless and tasteless. HPMC can increase properties of gelation, surface activity, water retention, thickening, adhesion, dispersion, emulsification, film-forming, suspension, providing protective colloids and other properties.

HPMC application field is used in tile adhesive, dry mix mortar ,wall putty, pharmaceutical excipients, food, paint, detergent, cosmetic, ceramic industry etc.its synonym: HPMC; E464; MHPC; Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose,Hypromellose. Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose is easily soluble in cold water but difficult to be soluble in hot water. However, its gelling temperature in hot water is significantly higher.HPMC can mix with water soluble polymers to form a uniform solution of higher viscosity, such as polyvinyl alcohol, starch ethers, and vegetable gums.

Is Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose safe?
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is manufactured from purified cotton linter cellulose with special etherification under alkaline condition. The whole process is made under automatic DCS control which contain no active constituents, such as animal organs and grease. It is non-toxic and harmless, and approved as additives by the food, drug and cosmetics regulations of all the countries,Overall, the FDA consider it as a non-toxic and non-irritating inactive ingredient that is safe for human use and consumption.

What is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose made of?
Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC) is made of purified cotton linter cellulose or wood pulp with special etherification under alkaline condition. The whole process is made under automatic DCS control which contain no preservatives, gelatin, wheat, gluten, animal products or starch.

What is the use of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose?
HPMC can be used in tile adhesive, dry mix mortar ,wall putty, pharmaceutical excipients, food, paint, detergent, cosmetic, ceramic industry etc.

How do you mix hydroxypropyl methylcellulose?

Dissolve 2 spoons of hpmc in a half cup of hot boiling water. Stir continuously until all materials have dissolved in water; the solution should be fairly thick and syrupy. Next add 1 cup of very cold water, and mix thoroughly.
