Redispersible Latex Powder for Ceramic Tile Glue

Redispersible Latex Powder for Ceramic Tile Glue

The modification of cement mortar by polymer makes them complement each other, so that polymer modified mortar can be used in many special situations. In addition, due to the potential of dry-mixed mortar in quality control, construction operation, storage and environmental protection, redispersible latex powder provides an effective technical means for the production of special dry mortar products.

As mentioned earlier, the three most widely used special dry mortar products are ceramic tile glue, bonding and plastering mortar in external wall thermal insulation system, and self-leveling mortar, combined with the analysis of the action mechanism of redispersible latex powder, let’s discuss its role in these three typical special dry mortar products. Because ceramic tiles have good decoration and functionality such as durability, waterproofing and easy cleaning, their applications are very common: including walls, floors, ceilings, fireplaces, murals and swimming pools, and can be used both indoor and outdoor.

The traditional method of pasting ceramic tiles is the thick layer construction method, that is, first apply ordinary mortar on the back of the tile, and then press the tile on the base layer, the thickness of the mortar layer is about 10 to 30 mm.Although this method is very suitable for construction on the uneven base, however, the disadvantages are low brick laying efficiency, high technical proficiency requirements for workers, increased risk of shedding due to poor flexibility of mortar, and it is difficult to strictly control the quality of mortar at the construction site.

This method is only suitable for high water absorption tiles. Before pasting the tiles, the tiles need to be soaked in water in order to achieve sufficient bond strength. At present, the so-called thin layer sticking method is widely used in Europe, in which the polymer modified ceramic tile glue batch is scraped to the base surface of the tile with a tooth spatula in advance to form a mortar layer with raised stripes and uniform thickness and then the tile is pressed on it and twisted slightly, the thickness of the mortar layer is about 2 to 4 mm .Due to the modification of cellulose ether and redispersible latex powder, the use of this ceramic tile adhesive has good bonding properties for different types of base layers, including fully vitrified tiles with extremely low water absorption and has good flexibility to absorb the stress caused by temperature difference and other factors.

And excellent vertical flow resistance, long enough opening time for thin layer construction can greatly speed up the construction speed, easy to operate and no need to pre-wet tiles in water. This construction method is easy to operate and easy to carry out on-site construction quality control.
